Los Angeles Desalination Study
Client: Los Angeles Water and Power
Metcalf & Eddy completed a study for this client of the feasibility of augmenting existing supplies with desalinated seawater. Immersed membrane MF followed by reverse osmosis was specified by LADWP as the treatment process for the evaluation.
Capital and operations and maintenance costs were evaluated for the range of plant sizes, and cost curves were developed. Total water cost curves in $/acre-foot versus plant size were developed. M&E staff also analyzed the affect of power cost on total water cost for each plant size and plotted the results to illustrate the sensitivity of power cost on total water cost. |
