Winners of the 2006 Harry L. Kinsel Award
Since 1973, Metcalf & Eddy has presented an award to the best written engineering or environmental document published by an M&E staff member. This commemorative award, the Harry L. Kinsel Award, adds M&E’s own internal professional recognition to that achieved externally. All papers submitted are reviewed based on their value to the firm, their value to the profession, and the quality of the presentation.
We are pleased to announce that the first place winner of the 2006 Harry L. Kinsel award is a paper entitled: LID Techniques to Avoid the Impacts of Hydro-Modification: A Case Study. This excellent paper was authored by James Sullivan and Dominique Brocard and co-authored with Frederick Brandon of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority. (See below for PDF versions of the papers.)
Additionally, two Honorable Mentions are being recognized for the following exceptional papers:
- Design of a Storage Tunnel Control Strategy to Eliminate CSO and Reduce Stormwater Discharges to South Boston Beaches authored by Donald Walker and Gregory Heath and co-authored by William Levy and Stephanie Moura of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority.
- Field Data Evaluation and Modeling of DNAPL Source Zone Depletion authored by Donald Dwight, Dominique Brocard and Laurie O’Connor and co-authored by Dr. B.H. Kueper of Queens University (Ontario, Canada) and Michael Elliot and Pat Webb of Texas Instruments, Inc.
We would like to thank our four judges, Olivia Chen, Steve Bishop, Neville Chung and Jim Mueller who read and evaluated 12 papers submitted for this year’s competition.
We would also like to thank the authors of all submitted papers whose effort to push the envelope of environmental technology makes M&E a prominent leader in our profession.
